Cool folks from Clintonville (mostly) sharing information and smacktalk about upcoming running events.

And occasionally meeting for a beer.

Run update

Love the logo!!!!! Be sure to check it out on the previous post. Let's get t-shirts made!!!! Thanks Helga

Congratulations to Olaf on completing a 13.1 this past weekend at Disney!!! Not sure how our warrior let Minnie pass him. Will he ever live this down?

Good luck to Kelly running the Chicago Marathon this coming weekend (Wow!) and also to the Warrior Queen's other half who is running the Columbus 1/2 the following weekend.

For those of you who have signed up for the Warrior Dash, we are changing our wave time to 3:00 pm. Innocent Bystander can't make it by noon and we do need the official team photographer at the event - unless of course she is planning to surprise us all and actually compete.

Next run....... The Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Day. It is amazing how good that Thanksgiving dinner tastes after a 5 mile run!! Not to mention the extra slice of pie with absolutely zero guilt!! I am running it along with Dunkr and possibly a Lil' Villebilly. Here is the link to sign up:

Villebilly Run Club logo

After months of trial and error, I am ready to reveal my attempt at our 1st Villebilly Run Club logo. Critiques are welcome but may be ignored.

Wife of Hagar is still recovering from her broken tailbone, but hopes to start running in the next week or two! Hope you are all doing well!

The First Villebilly Run Club Event was Small but Successful!

Six VBRC members plus the I.B. gathered at the Oak last Saturday evening to initiate our run club in the only way we know how:  running and drinking.  The weather was perfect and the company was up to the task.  We ran from The Oak to Patrick J's, where we enjoyed a beverage at the halfway mark before tackling the uphill portion of the run.  Dunkr was the clear leader at this point and if he had just had his beer and left he might have stayed as such.  We all decided to head back out together, though, and Dunkr's wife was not to be outdone by him - she blew back into the Oak ahead of all the rest.  Congratulations to all - we're working on the next event now.  Maybe the I.B. will bring a better camera.

The new look of the blog!

Warrior Dash 2011. Ah...the memories.
Let's keep this momentum going and keep each other informed of other running events. Let's keep the commeraderie going by planning some of our OWN running events (are you aware that it is exactly two miles from the Oak to Patrick J's?) Helga C has determined that she is going to sign up for the Strides for Hope run for Ovarian Cancer with her daughter. I plan to do the same.  As you all probably know, the innocent bystander and I lost a sister-in-law to this cancer. I'll be running - the IB will walk. This 5k event is on Sept 11, 2011 starting and ending at Genoa Park (by COSI). Who else is in?? Maybe we can make our own "Villebillies Run for Hope" team T-shirts. The link to this race registration is available on this page.

Register for the 2012 Dash

The link at the top of this blog page is for the NEW site - registration is already open for 2012.  Dunkr has revealed a secret code (save $5 off registration):  "WDmapmyrun"    I have registered for 12:00 on Saturday June 2, 2012.  How many will join me?

Big changes still coming for the blog.

Better late than never!

OK, so here (finally) are a few pictures we took at the Dash.

Olaf says, "Look for some changes to the blog, coming soon!"

Start training!!!!!

I sent an email yesterday to Warrior Dash complimenting them on their organization and begging them to come back next year. Here is the response: "Thanks so much! We always love to hear positive feedback from our events and that people had a great time! Ohio was our biggest event to date so I'm sure we will be back by popular demand, not to worry!"

Can you spot Jorundr?

She said it!!!!!!

So when I was running I really wasn't thinking about my fingers being over the camera lens as I was holding it. I am going to need Dunkr Jr to do some editing before I post what I have (which isn't much). But I did get the most important video of all..... No Innocent Bystander next year!!!! You are going to have to come up with a new name!!!!

First Pictures from a freaking awesome day!!!!!

Waiver and release, continued...

4. I agree not to consume alcohol prior to Warrior Dash or ingest any medicines or substances that will inhibit my mental or pyshical ability to safely and effectively participate in Warrior Dash.
Alcohol was going to be my excuse to enjoy a slow, leisurely race. Perhaps now I'll use the heat as my excuse. I tend to throw-up and pass-out when I'm too hot. No wise cracks!

Comments are for sissies

If you have tried to comment on any of these posts, they do not seem to be working quite right.  So, make a post.  You are all authors.

Beat the Heat 2

It's only supposed to be 92 degrees on Saturday.  Even cooler at noon.  Suck it up warriors!

Monday, May 30, 2011

Beat the heat!!!

Have you seen the forecast for Saturday??????????
Gonna be a scorcher!!!!

Waiver and Release

Have you all read the waiver you must bring with you on Saturday?
#2.  "I understand that the Warrior Dash presents extreme obstacles including, but not limited to, fire, mud pits, cargo climbs, junk cars, and steep hills."  (Astrid, is Prince John aware of this?)
#6.  "I agree to obey all civil and criminal laws at all times."  (Hear that, Jorundr?)
#15.  "I understand that some of the obstacles may go through water that has not been tested for chemicals or disease."  (Gross!  Will the warrior queen go in there?)
#17.  "I agree not to enter or dive into the mud pit head first."  (Duh.  Someone tell Dunkr.)

Moral:  Don't forget your waivers, folks.

Who and what?

Most folks will place a bet to see who will win.  Not us.  We want to bet on who will be injured and what body part they will injure.

A conversation took place between two or three unnamed persons and it went something like this:   "I guess its too late to take odds on Hagar."  "Duh.  Remind me not to cross Helga, wife of Hagar, while she's wielding her sword."  "My money's on Helga C and her ankle."  "Nah - too obvious. You might as well bet on Igor's knee.  I'm thinking Dunkr and his ego!" "As long as he finishes before the warrior princess he'll be happy."  "It's Warrior QUEEN."  "Should we be thinking about Astrid?"  "Probably not, but I'm pretty sure her Prince John doesn't run....that might be the money bet; but that could Change."  "Jorundr Madgoat was boasting about his physical prowess today.  Think he'll make it through unscathed?" "He's got a better chance than Olaf!"  "Olaf only wants the hat, anyway."  (To which Olaf exclaimed, "Hey!  I want a medal, too!")

So - wondering who Jorundr is?  He probably is, too.  The not-so-innocent bystander and I plugged in a little info about our friend JH at http://www.thequarter.org/Media/VikingName.php.  Check it out, have fun, and let's all get together at the Warrior Queen's house for a beer and some strategizing real soon.

Fire Fire Fire

Is that burning hair that I smell? Do running shorts come treated for fire resistance? ...hmmm.... Maybe I'll wear my pajamas...I know... I'll wear wool shorts or a kilt. At least they won't melt and will be easier for the EMTs to remove!

Warrior Dash Atlanta 5/14 pre race pics

The Woods are doing the race today. Michelle sent some pre race pics..... I particularly like the umbrella and waders!!!!

What are we thinking????? Who's idea was this?????? :)

Monday, May 9, 2011

Hagar is out.

The rumors are true. Hagar is out with a broken knee cap...still. My new partner is niece Katie who attends Ohio University. She's well trained in the 'party' area, but might run out of wind mid-way through the race. I should be able to keep up with her.

Registration reopened??

Have they added waves or something? The "SOLD OUT" notice has been removed from the site and I was able to go to the registration page. Not that I considered registering, of course..!

Obstacles....too dangerous???

"How does (insert obstacle here) work? Will (insert obstacle here) be scary / too difficult / dangerous?

What you see is what you get until race day. Click on your region's page for a detailed map of your battleground course."

Nothing is too dangerous for us warriors!  Now that the snow is gone...

Mental Toughness

"I'm not in good shape. Can I do this?

Finishing Warrior Dash is more about mental toughness than being in great shape."
(stolen from the Warrior Dash site)

Well said.  Just keep reminding yourself about your so called "mental toughness".  That being said, when jumping over fire, I would recommend that in addition to your "mental toughness" you also posses the ability to jump high.

Time to drink?

Shouldn't we start contemplating a trip to the watering hole? Good drinking habits don't 'just happen.' They need to be nurtured! Besides, it's time for someone amongst us to see what the inside of the India Oak actually looks like.

Hagar may be out of the race!

Hagar (aka Tom) could be down for the count. His knee has not yet recovered from the time I clubbed him with the back end of my sword. Obviously he was not wearing the proper armour. We will know more in a month or so.

Regardless, my training continues...

Thursday, March 3, 2011

There will be Paramedics....

"Is Warrior Dash safe?

There's certainly risk involved in Warrior Dash, but we take every precaution possible to get you to the finish line safely. There will be paramedics and an ambulance on site in case of an emergency. You enter Warrior Dash at your own risk."

Key phrase: "There will be paramedics..."  So which obstacle will it be?  Deadweight Drifter, Wicked Windstorm, Junkyard Jam or the Rio Run?  Any one may cause mayhem.  Which will be your downfall?  Are you prepared?  You may want to go out for a run or twelve.

Warrior Facts.....

So, after looking at the new videos on the Warrior Dash website and feeling like not a single person was over the age of twenty something I decided to check out the results of a recent Dash.
In Fl this past January the winner of the entire Dash on Saturday (6000+ people) won with an impressive time of 20 min 11 secs.....Even more impressive - he is 39 yrs old!!!
The 40-44 yr old women's age group had 340 competitors
The oldest woman competing was 70 yrs old and finished the race in a seriously impressive 50 mins 12 secs (note to self - beat this time or else!!!!!)
The winner of the 70+ male age group was 70 yrs old and finished in 41 mins 8 secs and the oldest competitor in the race was a 74 yrs old male who finished in 52 mins 22 secs.
Note to the rest of you....... anyone finishing with a time slower than 52 mins 22 secs should buy the first round!!!!!

Supplies Needed!

Has anyone got a viking helmet I can borrow to take my profile picture?? All we have in our house is Disney Princess crowns and that is not the image I am after! Or maybe just a set of antlers from above your fireplace from your last successful hunt.....

The idea hatches

Stolen from the Warrior Dash web site:

"How do I train for Warrior Dash?

  1. Day one: run as far as you can. Go home.
  2. Day two: do the same thing.
  3. Find the dirtiest pond in your neighborhood and snorkel in it - in your slippers, without goggles.
  4. Practice your climbing and crawling skills at your local jungle gym. Ignore the small children and parental glares.
  5. Do not shower or shave for weeks in order to obtain a true Warrior look.
Seriously though, your best bet is to do plenty of running leading up to the race."

Just to let everyone know that the race is sold out!  The added additional waves on Saturday and they added Sunday and it still sold out in February....  I hope to just create a blog where everyone can give occational updates on their "training" for this event.  Perhaps we need our own training program.  I would recommend running from IC to the Oak (enjoy a beverage or two) and run back.

Aside from Carlin (x2); Jenkins (x2); Rinderle (x2); Hetterscheidt (J) and Bressoud (P), and Intihar(2) who else is venturing down for the event?
                Kelly Blue (friend of Olaf)
Michelle and Alex Woods (in Atlanta)
